Pestle & Mortar

For a special collaboration with Pestle & Mortar during the DCODE 2017 event, the project called for custom artwork centred around a UK-themed concept. Leaning into the brief, the English bulldog was chosen as the central figure; an iconic symbol of British resilience and attitude. The aim was to reinterpret this classic imagery through a bold, hand-drawn aesthetic that aligned with the brand’s gritty, street-inspired identity.

Illustrated Grit, UK-Bred
The design began as a detailed pencil sketch, built with expressive linework and a raw, unpolished charm. After being digitised, the illustration was refined for adaptability across various applications including embroidery patches, screen-printed t-shirts, and stickers, among others. Each version brought out a different texture and feel, while maintaining the original artwork’s bold character and visual impact.
The collaboration was a success, with the bulldog graphic becoming a signature emblem of the event. Seen on denim jackets, backpacks, and city walls, it tied the UK theme together with bold, memorable visuals. The design left a lasting impression, continuing to appear long after the event ended.
